An AI Operating System (AI OS) is how I run my entire business.
It's one folder that the AI agents I use read before I type a word, wherever they run.
This platform is where you build yours.
You'll find every guide, skill and tool I use to run mine, one layer at a time.
Here's what's on this page:
- What exactly an AI OS is
- Why you need your own
- What you get from the AI OS platform
- The 7 layers, and which guide covers each one
- How to set yours up today
- Your path through the AI OS platform, step by step
And I'll show you exactly where to start.
What exactly is an AI OS?
An AI OS sits underneath the AI tools you already use.
It holds everything that stays true about you and your business: your background, your offers, your buyers, your writing style and the rules you work by.
All of it lives in plain text files, in one folder.
Here's why that matters.
Every AI agent starts a session knowing nothing about you. It knows its training data, and that's it.
So without one, you'd explain your business all over again in every new chat.
With one, your agent opens the folder first. It already knows your offer, your audience and your voice before you ask for anything.
Think of it like logging in to your laptop. Your files, apps and settings are just there. An AI OS does the same for every AI session.
Here's what the folder looks like:
It isn't a prompt library, either. A prompt library still makes you find the right prompt and paste in your context. An AI OS loads your context on its own, before you type.
It doesn't lock you into one agent, either. Every agent you use follows the same rules file, so you can switch without starting over.
Where your AI OS runs
Your AI OS workspace folder can live in more than one place. Here's what each one is good for:
| Where | What it's good for |
|---|---|
| Your computer | The work you do side by side with your agent, using your local files |
| A private GitHub repo | A backup of your AI OS workspace folder, and access for your team |
| The cloud or a VPS | Jobs that should run hands-off, and tools that only exist in the cloud |
You can use any mix of these, and move work between them as your setup grows.
Claude Code, Codex, OpenClaw, Hermes and other agents can work from the same folder in any of those places.

Why you should run your own AI OS
Here's the thing:
An AI agent is only as good as what it knows about you.
Without an AI OS, you paste the same background into every chat and fix the same wrong guesses, every single day.
With one, the work compounds. Each correction, connection and skill makes the next session better.
I know because I run mine every day. Calling me a heavy Claude Code user is putting it mildly.
Here's 2 months of my usage:
You’ve used ~344× more tokens than The Lord of the Rings.
(I started on the $20/mo Pro plan)
Same usage on the Anthropic API would’ve cost $0.
I built my business on it, and it replaced Kit, ThriveCart, WordPress, Circle and most of the tools I used to pay for.
Even this platform was built with my own AI OS, without a single developer or designer.
You don't need to code. You need the right setup, and this is where you get it.
What you get from the AI OS platform
Everything here serves one goal: your own AI OS, running your business.
Here's what's inside:
A guide for every layer
Each of the 7 layers gets its own page, from context to apps.
The skills
Your agents run ready-made jobs with one command, and every skill page shows its full SKILL.md.
MCP server, CLI and API
They hook your AI OS up to any agent, even cloud ones.
AI workshops
Creators and AI experts share their screen and show how they use AI.
AI OS Insiders
It's a free community where you compare setups and ask questions.
AI OS Pro and Max
You get my own system, ready to open, and Max adds live sessions with me.
AI OS Command Center
It's a dashboard for what your agents ran and what it cost, and it comes with AI OS Pro and Max.
AI OS Certificate
The quizzes on every page are free, and the certificate comes with AI OS Pro and Max.
Some of it is free. The rest comes with AI OS Pro and Max.
The 7 layers every AI OS is built on
Every AI OS has the same 7 layers.
Build them in this order, because each one leans on the layer before it:
| Layer | What it does for you |
|---|---|
| Context | Gives every agent your story, your offers and your voice |
| Data | Keeps customers, sales and content together, where your agent can search them |
| Tools | Connects your email, calendar, payments and publishing |
| Memory | Keeps every decision, correction and daily note |
| Skills | Runs a job the same way every time, from one command |
| Automations | Runs your routines on a schedule, without you |
| Apps | Puts the answer on a page before you ask |
Each layer has its own guide: Context, Data, Tools, Memory, Skills, Automations and Apps.
How to set up your AI OS today
Setup takes 2 steps.
First, install the folder with the command at the top of this page.
Then run /onboard inside it.
It studies what you've already written, asks 12 questions, then fills in your context files for you. Plan on about 15 minutes.
/onboard and answer the questions out loud.Pro tip: Short on time? Stop /onboard whenever you like. Your answers are saved as you go, and it picks up where you left off.
Then check it loaded:

FAQs about the AI OS
Here are answers to the most common questions about building an AI Operating System (AI OS).
An AI OS is a set of plain text files that describes your business in enough detail for an agent to work the way you would.
You point an AI agent, like Claude Code or Codex, at that folder. It reads your files first, then gets to work.
That's why it works. Instead of guessing, your agent starts each task already briefed.
ChatGPT is one app, and every new chat starts knowing nothing about you unless you paste it in.
An AI OS isn't an app. It's a layer of files you own, sitting underneath every AI tool you use.
Every agent you use reads the same setup, which makes changing agents painless.
ChatGPT can use your AI OS too, once you connect the AI OS MCP server.
Every session starts with an empty context window. Your agent brings what it learned in training, but nothing about you.
So you keep re-supplying the same details, and correcting the same mistakes the next day.
An AI OS fixes the cause. Your business lives in context files your agent opens as each session begins, and every correction you give goes into a memory file so it holds.
The Memory guide shows how to set that part up.
Your first version is ready in about 15 minutes.
You install the folder with one command and open it in your agent. Then you run /onboard, which studies your existing writing and asks you 12 questions.
When it's done, your context files are filled in, and a fresh session already knows your business and your offer.
From there, your AI OS grows as you use it, one skill and one connection at a time.
Yes. Every file in an AI OS is plain English you can open and read.
You describe what you want, and your agent handles the technical parts: creating files, connecting tools and running commands.
Your job is to answer questions about your business and check what it writes.
If you hit a term you don't know, the AI glossary explains it in plain words.
Yes, for the jobs you want hands-off. Keep your AI OS workspace folder in a private GitHub repo, and cloud tools can work from it.
Claude Code routines clone your repo and run on a schedule, from an API call, or when something happens on GitHub, like a new pull request. They keep working when your laptop is closed.
Claude Code GitHub Actions runs inside your repo's own workflows, on GitHub events or a cron schedule. The Codex GitHub Action runs Codex from GitHub events too.
Codex cloud runs tasks against a connected repo in the background. And you can run agents like Claude Code, Codex, OpenClaw or Hermes on a VPS of your own, so they're always on.
Step 7 of How to build an AI OS covers scheduling.
Any agent that opens a folder on your computer works. That includes Claude Code, Codex, Cursor, Antigravity and Gemini CLI.
They all follow one rules file. CLAUDE.md holds the rules, and the other 2 files simply point to it.
Claude Cowork, ChatGPT, Grok Bot and other cloud agents can't open the folder directly. They connect through the AI OS MCP server instead.
Start with your context layer.
It's the part every other layer depends on, because it tells your agent who it's working for.
Once your agent knows that, drafts sound like you, skills get sharper and automations stop guessing.
The Context guide shows what goes into each file.
With AI OS Pro, you get the AI OS I run my business on, already built. That includes my workspace, a written guide and video walkthrough to set it up, and the skills and plugins built for it.
AI OS Max includes all of AI OS Pro. On top of that, you get live sessions with me where we go through your own AI OS together.
Both come with the AI OS Command Center, and members of both can earn the AI OS Certificate.
You can compare the two on the AI OS Pro and Max page.
Yes. It stays in places you control, like your computer, your private GitHub repo or your own server. Nothing in it is sent to us.
Your agent works with those files like any other folder you open.
Keys for your connected tools stay in a settings file on your machine, which git ignores. They never go in a chat or a context file.
If you keep your AI OS in git, keep the repository private, because your context holds your business.
