Rate limit
A rate limit is the ceiling on how much you can use in a window, before you have to wait.
It is why a long afternoon suddenly stops. You have not broken anything, you have spent the allowance.
Output tokens burn it fastest, which is why asking for a diff rather than a full rewrite buys you hours.
