Vector database
A vector database stores embeddings so you can search by meaning across a lot of documents, fast.
It is the filing cabinet behind retrieval. Your documents go in once, and questions find the right pieces without reading everything.
For a folder of markdown you do not need one. For thousands of pages you do.
